Marine Ply in Kenya

MDF Wood- the Growing demand of Raw Material

There are many important aspects to keep in mind when one is undertaking some kind of construction work. One such aspect is protection against water and moisture of any kind. Seepage of water and moisture has been known to spoil many good structures. That is why builders often scout long and hard for the materials that will be used for construction, amongst popular materials like prefab wall panel, or various types of vehicles in Kenya, like trucks.

Medium-density fiberboard (MDF), a denser version of plywood, is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.

The evolution of the various types of MDF has been driven by differing need for specific applications. While making the marine ply, the chips are then compacted using a screw feeder, are heated/steamed for 30-120 seconds to soften the wood, then joined with liquefied wax and fed into a defibrator. The defibrator maintains a high pressure and temperature while grinding the wood chips into a pulp. Water and moisture pose great threats to constructions.

Many property owners are quite casual in their approach to this problem, especially related to tiles in Kenya. Since the destruction happens over a long period of time, they are slow to react to this problem. They should take steps in the construction stage itself by using this type of plywood for their construction work.
